Wurlitzer Electric Pianos

Restoration of Wurlitzer electric pianos isn't limited to the electronics. Unlike the simpler Fender Rhodes action, Wurlitzer used a modified and miniaturized grand piano action in their pianos. And just like it's large scale cousin it is filled with several hundred adjustments. As time goes by felts used at the various contact points in the action "pack" or become thinner due the pressure of the action resting on it as well as the force of playing, so even a piano that was hardly ever played can be wildly out of adjustment.

Our technicians carefully follow the same set of procedures used at the Wurlitzer factory. The process is called "regulation" and is as much as science as it is a skill. The entire process, encompassing many hours of work for a single pass, may be repeated several times before the technician is satisfied with the results.

The reward for this effort is a piano that plays like it was new, capable of reproducing the loudest most dominate tones to the most delicate notes as the players skill and talent will allow. You no longer have to wrestle with the instrument, it becomes an extension of your own fingers. Dynamic, responsive, and reliable.

Please note that due to the plastic casing of a Wurlitzer piano, it is not always possible to restore the exterior to 'like new' condition as we can with our Rhodes restorations by re-Tolexing and replacing hardware. However, many Wurlitzers have survived the past few decades in excellent condition, and we can provide pictures of the exterior of our pianos before we ship to our customers.

Wurlitzer 200 (200-A) Electric Piano

The first recorded song to feature a Wurlitzer Electric Piano was Ray Charles' 'What'd I Say', released in 1959. Early models of Wurlitzer evolved into the most popular Wurlitzer Electric Piano, the 200 (and later the 200-A), which was manufactured from 1967 to 1980.

These electric pianos feature two front-mounted speakers, more reliable electronics and mechanics than the older models of Wurlitzer electric piano, and a Tremolo circuit with a knob to control intensity.

Wurlitzer 206

A Wurlitzer 206 is a 200-series Wurlitzer Electric Piano which was designed for and marketed to schools and universities. The electronics and action are identical to a any 200-series Wurlitzer. We restore these pianos and remove them from their speaker cabinet base, rendering them suitable for use on any X-style keyboard stand or with a set of our hardwood Wurlitzer legs.

All of our Wurlitzer 206's have been fully serviced and have the following modifications:

Wurlitzer has been removed from speaker cabinet
Wurlitzer power cord has been replaced with a standard, computer-style three prong plug
1/4" line-level output has been added (on the bottom of the keyboard)
Tremolo circuitry has been enabled and the former 'self/headphone/ensemble' knob has been wired to the tremolo circuit - the same configuration as a Wurlitzer 200A

For a limited time, we are also offering discounted pricing on Wurlitzer accessories if you buy a Wurlitzer 206 from us, including our Wurlitzer legs and leg flanges, and both our Ugly Parts Wurlitzer Pedal and our Speakeasy Wurlitzer Pedal.
