Restoration of Wurlitzer electric pianos isn't limited to the electronics. Unlike the simpler Fender Rhodes action, Wurlitzer used a modified and miniaturized grand piano action in their pianos. And just like it's large scale cousin it is filled with several hundred adjustments. As time goes by felts used at the various contact points in the action "pack" or become thinner due the pressure of the action resting on it as well as the force of playing, so even a piano that was hardly ever played can be wildly out of adjustment.
Our technicians carefully follow the same set of procedures used at the Wurlitzer factory. The process is called "regulation" and is as much as science as it is a skill. The entire process, encompassing many hours of work for a single pass, may be repeated several times before the technician is satisfied with the results.
The reward for this effort is a piano that plays like it was new, capable of reproducing the loudest most dominate tones to the most delicate notes as the players skill and talent will allow. You no longer have to wrestle with the instrument, it becomes an extension of your own fingers. Dynamic, responsive, and reliable.
Please note that due to the plastic casing of a Wurlitzer piano, it is not always possible to restore the exterior to 'like new' condition as we can with our Rhodes restorations by re-Tolexing and replacing hardware. However, many Wurlitzers have survived the past few decades in excellent condition, and we can provide pictures of the exterior of our pianos before we ship to our customers.
