Why do you need a preamp?
It's important for the customer to understand that our preamps aren't just for amplifying sound. Our preamps serve a dual purpose, one is indeed to amplify the output of your keyboard when it's not enough to properly drive your amplifier, the other and most important purpose is to sculpt the tone of your instrument, to restore it's dynamic scope and clarity, and give it a warm pleasing tone that only a Speakeasy can deliver.
History of the Speakeasy Vintage Tube preamp line.
It all started some years ago, when our founder, a veteran musician, first turned to a "Clone" keyboard. After years of gigging with the real thing, he had decided, as many of you have, that a real B3 as too much to haul from gig to gig.
Trouble was he couldn't find that perfect simulation, something was missing (sound familiar?) So with his musical talents in one hand, and his engineering skills in the other he set out to find the solution.
After a fashion, he emerged with the first Clone Classic preamp and the legend was born.
As time went on, he and our customers discovered other uses for this preamp and additional versions were added to the line. Including our most popular Leslie Preamps which can be configured to operate any of the standard Leslie models.
Today, we produce Clone preamps for the Hammond "clonewheel" synths, Keyboard preamps for standard digital synths, Guitar preamps for those who wish to play guitar through a Leslie™ cabinet, and Studio Platinum preamps for use in recording of Hammond clones or just about anything else.
