I’m considering buying a Rhodes Mk2 54 in the U.K. It’s just been serviced by a Rhodes technician and is in beautiful condition, has original legs, pedal and cover but no bag for the accesseries. The asking price is £1500. Is that a fair price. I know that the pickups in this instrument are wired in series, so if one goes, I’ll get no sound. How long do pickups last and what can be done to maximise their life. Look forward to hearing your respected knowledge. Thank You.

Pickup life is a matter of environment to a large degree, but the “white” coils (they have white wrapping around the windings, as opposed to earlier coils that had a clear wrapping) tend to fail more often then the clear ones. That’s about all I can really say about it, I’ve seen everything from all coils OK to 90% of them open, and no rhyme or reason to really explain it.
As far as prices go – I really can’t help there being that I’ve never seen it and the fact that I have no idea what they go for in the UK (or even if £1500 is “a lot of money” or not). Better to check with someone in the UK about it. You could ask WD Greenhill.
