Only one was ever made…
[Description]
The Rhodes MkIV was an experimental model and only 1 was ever made.
The overall design of the action and case were radically altered from the loosely standard format of the MkI, II, and V models. A drop key action (one that reminds me of the action of a short scaled upright acoustic piano) and light weight shell over a metal substructure to reduce weight were among the many innovations attempted.
Fate would have none of that as new sampled pianos hit the market Rhodes needed a production model and elected to fall back to a less modified version of the old tried and true design. The light weight cabinet and new stand would find there way to the MkV, as would the redesigned dampers, but the other innovations would be dropped for the “Next Generation” of Rhodes.
