The Fender Rhodes MkI was the sucessor to the “Silver Top” and introduced rubber hammer tips and steel tonebars (older ones had been aluminium).

Tonally these tend to be the darkest of the Rhodes pianos oweing to the types of tines used as well as other design factors, some of which are still not fully understood.
