Vintage Remanufactured  Fender Rhodes™ and Rhodes™ Electric Pianos

Fully-Restored Fender Rhodes™ Electric Pianos For Sale

Although our Fender Rhodes™ inventory is constantly changing, we almost always have several electric pianos in stock. Please visit our restoration gallery to see images of some of our recent work.

Like all of our vintage instruments, each Fender Rhodes™ we sell is fully restored, usually to the point of being re-Tolexed and having all new hardware. Because of this, you will pay more for a Fender Rhodes™ from Speakeasy Vintage Music than you might if you are lucky enough to find one at a garage sale or in the classifieds, but keep in mind that you will be receiving an instrument that doesn't require any work or parts.

Here is a list of the minimum services we perform on every Fender Rhodes electric piano we sell:

Complete disassembly and cleaning, including keys which are cleaned and buffed using the same techniques as a traditional piano shop.
Replacement of grommets (always)
Replating of tonebars (always)
Replacement of felts and hammers as necessary
Cleaning of coils as needed
Regulation of key dip, bushing tension, leveling and spacing
Installation of a key lift if the action is particularly heavy
Full inspection of the bare wood cabinet for integrity of case, repairs and replacement parts as needed
Recovering with new Tolex if necessary (almost always)
Replacement of hardware as necessary
Inspection, restoration, and repair of all electronics as necessary

Available Piano Models

Fender Rhodes™ Stage Piano

By far the most common model of Fender Rhodes™, the Stage Piano was released in 1970 due in part to touring musicians' complaints about the added weight of the speaker cabinet of the original Suitcase Fender Rhodes™. They were manufactured until 1984, at which time the Fender Rhodes™ Mark V Stage Piano was released (only about 4000 Mk Vs were made).

The Fender Rhodes™ Stage Piano is available in 73-key or 88-key models, although the 88-key version are much rarer. In 1974 Rhodes™ dropped the Fender name from the logo, and in 1978 they released the Fender Rhodes™ Mark II pianos which featured the famous 'flat-top' so that keyboardists could stack other instruments on top of their Fender Rhodes™. Speakeasy Vintage Music now manufactures our own line of flat-tops, so if you have an older Fender Rhodes™ and wish to upgrade, Click Here.

There were countless improvements and modifications made to the Fender Rhodes™ over the course of its lifetime, so a 1970 Fender Rhodes™ is very different from a 1978 Rhodes™ and many of the parts are not interchangeable. It is important to remember when purchasing a Fender Rhodes™, that a 1977 Mark I Stage Piano has a lot more in common with a 1978 Mark II Stage Piano than with a 1973 Mark I Stage Piano.

Please note: the Fender Rhodes™ Stage Pianos is a passive instrument, so the output is quite weak. If you are using a tube guitar amplifier, we recommend one of our products, the Speakeasy 'Stage Box' Preamp, which is a preamp specifically designed to boost the output of your Fender Rhodes™ to a level which can properly drive a tube amplifier. If you are using a solid-state amplifier or running your Rhodes™ directly to a P.A. system, we recommend one of our Rhodes™ Dyno or Class A Suitcase Dyno Vintage Tube Preamps. Please check our  feedback page to learn more about these products.

Fender Rhodes™ Suitcase Piano

The Fender Rhodes™ Suitcase Piano was released in 1965 and was never produced in the quantities of the later Fender Rhodes™ Stage Piano. As you can see, a Suitcase Piano consists of two pieces - the top piano portion, and an amplifier/speaker cabinet which the piano sits on. Early model Rhodes™ Suitcases had a 80-watt stereo amplifier made by Peterson, with a four-pin cable connecting the two pieces. Later model Suitcases had a 100-watt Janus system with a five-pin cable.

Rhodes Road Cases

We've both made a large investment in your new Rhodes™ piano, but rough roadies and rough roads don't understand that.

Doesn't your Rhodes™ deserve better?  With our Rhodes™ cases your piano is fully protected and with built in casters, easier to move then ever.

That translates into gentler handling, and longer life on the road!

Please visit our instrument cases page for more details.
