[Description]

There have been many models of Wurlitzer Electro-Pianos but none is as widely known as the “200 Series”.

The Model 200 was first, with the 200A coming later with revised electronics but the same action and reeds as it’s ancestor. Along with the 200 came the 206, 207, and others – but all were the same basic piano inside. (at the same time as the introduction of the 200A came the 206A, 207A and so on…)

While the 200 series represented the best action and case, the electronics are not so good. Prone to noises, sizzling, and outright failure, they also lost something that even earlier models had – tubes.

To address all of these troubles, we remove the original electronics and toss them out, replacing them with our own tube based design – you get that indescribable vacuum tube warmth AND the classic Wurli tone!

Of course after all these years they need more then a quick polish and a new amp, so we tear the piano down to it’s most basic components and completely restore the action – we are able to replace any worn felts, even the hammer covers themselves, something some other shops can’t do.

Our “boneyard” has many examples and several models, but when you order one it is rebuilt to Model 200 specifications – built in speakers, Aux Out jack, and STEREO headphone jack instead of the original MONO headphone jack. (for convenient use of modern headphones; left and right sides are identical program).

All Remanufactured Wurlitzer Electro-Pianos have the following features:

  • Custom finishes available.
  • Vacuum Tube Preamp – built in.
  • Vibrato
  • Aux. Output jack
  • Stereo Headphone jack
  • Fully repaired / repainted cabinet*
  • Fully restored action
  • Fully regulated action
  • Complete professional voicing and tuning
  • Chrome Legs
  • Metal Sustain Pedal (Reproduction of the original wood pedal but far more durable)

* We repaint the cabinet bottom, but tops may or may not be painted depending on original color and choice of final color.

I’d be very interested in a remanufactured 200A, can you reply a quote or cost estimate? I’m a percussionist who records at home and would like the instrument for recording/learning but my skill level is only a hobbyist right now

  3. Ted Says:

Well, our remanufactured pianos are Pro level – but not to worry, even though you say you’re a hobbyist (and I’ll bet you’re being modest) you don’t want to fall into the trap of “I’ll buy a cheap old beater now and get a better one when I get better” because that economy instrument is going to hold you back – and maybe even convince you to quit, thinking that you can’t do it when it’s really the piano that’s to blame.

For prices and what we have in our inventory right now, you’ll want to contact Steve by Email or phone (717.292.0814)

  4. Jonny Winter Says:

I totally recommend buying a Wurlitzer Electric Piano from this store, it is the only pace to consider if you want a really good restoration job that will last a lifetime. I am so proud of my Wurli, it sounds amazing at gigs, and always turns heads!

  5. Steve Midgley Says:

What would you quote me for a set of chrome EP200 legs and a sustain pedal with shipping to the UK? I have a set of silver sprayed wooden legs on my Wurli but want it to look ‘right’ and have never had the sustain. Thanks.

  6. Ted Says:

What you want to do is go to the webstore site (http://www.shopspeakeasy.com) and put those items in your “Shopping Cart”. Then start to check out. You’ll be asked for your address and so forth, and then you’ll be presented a screen showing your total INCLUDING the shipping. At that point you can click through to PayPal to pay for the order, or if you want to wait, you can just close your browser (or that tab) to cancel.

Hi, I would like to have some info about a wurly… I got one, but I can’t play it in studio recordings, because the action is not perfect, some keys play louder than others, and this is a big problem…. do you think I can fix this prob?
your wurli are in perfect action conditions and well well tuned?
Could you quote me one including shipment to Italy?
    Thanks

  8. Ted Says:

The troubles you are experiencing are no doubt the result of wear and poor regulation and may be also a matter of voicing. These are exactly the things we address when rebuilding a customer’s piano, or preparing one from our stock for a sale. Tuning is also performed of course, but there is no one “quick fix” for these trouble anymore – to many years have gone by, and too many songs have been played. Which is why we do the full tear down and rebuild that we do.

As to prices, well, that’s a question for Steve – you can email him directly via steve@speakeasyvintagemusic.com

  9. Alan Haynes Says:

    Hello all at Speakeasy!
Two of the power transistors, TR 9 (2n5191) and TR10 (2n5194) have blown on my ’69 Wurlitzer 200. These are obsolete types and I don’t know what to replace them with. Could you give me some idea?
    Thank You.

  10. Ted Says:

We take those amplifiers and throw them away. Why? Well, you’re case (obsolete parts) is one example, others are that once you do replace those transistors there may be more damage, the fact that those old boards are poorly made and fragile (or at least have become so over the years), and tend to be noisy (another symptom of age).

We use an all new replacement of our own design – You can see it here.

Good luck on your hunt, but if you can’t turn up replacements OR you have a change of heart, let us know.

  11. Steve Midgley Says:

Hi, how easy is it to install one of your wurli vacuum tube amp units at home in an ep200 were I to buy one? I’ve got got some electronic experience, I modded my Leslie tube amp to solid state relay with a stationary setting keeping the actual tube amp as was. Would it it also generate the tremelo and work on UK 240V? Thanks.

  12. Ted Says:

If you’ve done that work then you are probably going to have no trouble with this. 6 wires to the pots (same layout as the original 200 board), 4 wires for power from the original transformer, and 2 “mains” leads for an auxillary transformer on the board (powers the tube). Trickiest part would be the AUX OUT, as it’s soldered to pins on the original board, and we use an RCA jack, so you have to solder an RCA Plug (provided) to the original shielded cable…

  13. Clint Says:

The AUX OUT on my 200A stopped working recently. Could you please offer me advice on how to trouble shoot this problem?

  14. Ted Says:

Take the board out and throw it away! Seriously, this will be just the beginning – the years have been unkind to the original electronics which is why we developed the SE-W245 board to replace those electronics. Every piano we touch gets one, you just can’t rely on the old circuitry anymore.

  15. Elle Says:

Any chance you would ship to the UK? Having trouble finding a Wurly in decent condition. Thanks.

  16. Ted Says:

    We sell and ship worldwide!

  17. Bob Casinghino Says:

Do you currently have any restored Wurlitzer’s in the 200 series for sale

  18. Ted Says:

We have them ready to be restored to your order. You can call Steve 717.292.0814 or email him steve@speakeayvintagemusic.com for prices and scheduling.
